  • Welsh speaking by guillaume Rame

Welsh is the language spoken by a portion (22 % anyway)of the people of Wales ( and oddly Argentina too). A language that does not sound like English for a penny. School says ysgol for example , what could be more logical that the university says Prifysgol (chief school + ) ? And they can enjoy themselves to remove a lot of vowels and consonants to add the full one after the other.

Os gwelwch yn dda  for example say please, which seems unpronounceable . It is not for nothing that this is a small Welsh village that holds the record for the longest village name in Europe : Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, yes I know it’s a very long word, but it’s funny to try to prononciate it. But it is pleasant enough , even exotic to hear such language.

Then even speaking English , Welsh keep this deep focus that would raise Texans for linguists. We must make a constant effort to understand , sometimes I asked my other flatmate " What did he say ? ", " Thank you ," Okay Well obviously I 'm not laughing , I really do not be either a model pronunciation for foreigners wishing to learn French with me !

The protection of the language is also provided , with 20 % of children in the region are well educated in Welsh first language and its study is compulsory to age 16 for all. A good initiative so! If you would like to learn the language of Catherine Zeta- Jones (yes , she is Welsh , need another motivation? ) you can go on the web site of the university and you can find a dictionary.

  • How I said in my last article, I will talk about the religions in Wales:

Wales’s origins are the druidism which was the main foundation of Celtic civilization in Wales before the 1st century. But during the romain conquest all the druids was killed and gradually the druidism disappeared.

It was in the 6th century that the Christianity took root, with Saint David the first diocese of Wales. Saint David’s day is the national day in Wales and we had the luck to celebrate that during our stay in Wrexham. A lot of persons was dressing in leek or had the traditional welsh kilt.

Today, Christianity is the main religion in Wales a few less 60%, but more than 30% of the population doesn’t believe in no god.

But in Wales the Christianity is divided into three parts, the Anglican Church in Wales, the Catholic Church and the Independent Churches. The three churches are not very different a part of the Independent Churches; the Anglican Church in Wales is more turn to the English culture.

For the Catholic Church, a part of the population is stranger the main are english and irish but there are a lot of europeans peoples to composite this church.

A large part of Welsh population is protestant and they frequent the Independent Churches, the Presbyterian Church, the Union of Welsh Independents, and the Baptist Union. I made a tour of the country and I visited Llanduno, Conwy and Bangor in the North. Aberystwyth and Aberaeron in the West and Cardiff in the south and all the time the church that I saw the most was the Protestant’s Church.

Despite a large number of believers, just less 10% are practicing, and when i talked with different welsh young person or older, it was always the time the same thing: "oh yes i am beliver but i don't practise a lot, i am not often going at the church".

The trip lasted almost 7 hours, but we discovered the other side of England, which also we were not too out of place because there are plenty of pasture. Once there , we had to take the subway, and we lost almost 2 hours , the problem of organization and orientation I think, is to say that without this card is not obvious .

22h here we finally arrived at our hostel. We take possession of the room and then towards the bed because the next day we get up early.

Friday 7:30am: Everyone standing we will head towards the city center to find a starbuck to take our breakfast and how lucky the sun is with us 9am: Once the stomach is full, we made on the program of the day, so we have the we can't take the subway, so we decided to visit the most important places and also to shops on the famous Oxford Streets also to shops on the famous Oxford Streets.

  • Wrexham is a town of the walles , which contains around her of numerous villages as well as fields to raise sheeps. For this month and half past here, I made several hikes with my roommates, to discover the landscapes of the country of gall.

    Arround Wrexham by Guillaume Rame

We began by having a walk around the city, we discovered it numerous natural reserves, which are of use in particular to the walk of Sunday for the inhabitants (in effects during an exit in the week, we met only some people, whereas on Sundays with the same weather report the park was much more occupied).

What I retain of these strolls it is that wrexham is surrounded with pasture for sheeps but also with old coal mines. We afterward travelled a little farther, on the quotation of the country of gall, we were able to discover two other cities Conwy and Landuno. The city of Conwy shelters a old castle furthermore, it is strengthened, a little as Avignon to make a comparison with a French city.

Unfortunately, during our passage, almost everything was closed, the summer season beginning at the end of March. After this stop in conwy we pursued in the direction of Landuno, seaside city, which reminds us strangely the city of Nice, we had a walk, then to discover a old undermine we let us have of rise at the top of the nearby hill, what allowed us at the same time to appreciate the sight, this was only short-term, because a thunderstorm burst and we have to turn back.

Finally, I would say that the landscapes of Wales are highly varied, we can so much have the sea, the campaign, the mountain, we have not more than big cities to be visited.
